 1.Mg overview
       There is 20-30g Mg in adult body, accounting for about 0.05% of human quality, of which, 60%-65% are in bones and teeth in the form of phosphate and carbonate, 27% are in soft tissue and 6%-7% are in other cells. Magnesium mainly exists in cell and is no more than 1% in extracellular fluid.
       Mg in food is mainly absorbed in small intestine, the absorption rate is 30%-50%. Mg absorption in human body is affected by many factors. For example, absorption rate will increase when Mg content is less and vise versa. In addition, amino acid, lactose and vitamin D can promote the absorption rate, but excessive phosphorus, oxalic acid, phytic acid, long chain saturated fatty acids and dietary fiber in dietary can inhibit the absorption rate.
2.Mg main physical function
        Magnesium is a component of bone, it can maintain the normal growth of bone. It is also the activator of many enzymes and can participate in 300 kinds of enzymatic reaction, and is especially important for the biological activity of oxidative phosphorylation enzymes, and for the glycolysis, fatty acid metabolism and the biosynthesis of proteins and nucleic acids. Besides, Mg works together with Ca, K and Na to maintain the excitability of nerve muscle. Mg ion is necessary for the maintenance of normal cardiac function and structure.
3.Mg deficiency
       In alcohol poisoning, serious kidney disease and acute diarrhea patients, can we find Mg deficiency. These diseases may reduce the Mg intake quantity. Its symptom is muscle spasm, rapid heartbeat, delirium, convulsions, lack of appetite, nausea and vomiting.
4.Mg demand and supply
      China dietary magnesium intake (AI) is: 30-70mg/d for infants younger than 1 year old, 350mg/d for 11 years old young and adult and 450mg/d for pregnant and lactating women. The tolerable upper intake level (UL) for adolescents over 11 years age and adult is 700mg/d.
5.Mg dietary origin
       Magnesium can be widely found in a variety of foods and its content may differ largely in food. It is rich in wheat, oat, barley, beans, nuts and yeast and those are good Mg sources. While its lower in meat, milk and eggs. And refined sugar, wine and oil does not contain magnesium.
